Healthy Gaming Tips and Tricks

1. Get Far, Far, Away

Step one is easy, all you have to do is distance yourself from food while gaming. While it seems like you might be eating a small snack, you may be unintentionally more than you think. If the food is not near you while you play, there is less temptation to eat between games.

2. Eye Strain

Ever start playing at 6:00 and when you’re done it’s 3:30 in the morning? Staring at the screen for several hours is bad for your eyes! Take a ten minute break every hour, if not more. This tip is especially helpful if you play with contact lenses.

3. Get Up and Stretch

The stretch is your best way to fight short term atrophy, which is basically trying to stand up after playing for a while and having trouble regaining your balance. When ever you die or are between games, stand up, stretch, and even walk around the room a few times.

4. Stop Anger in its Tracks

If you feel angry or frustrated it is time to stop playing. Even if you are determined to beat a level, just get a way from the game for a few minutes and just breathe. Don’t take your anger out on other people when you really don’t mean it. You also don’t want to break anything, such as a controller, when you get upset.

5. Some Healthy Snacks

Try some of these healthier snacks before gaming, and you will play better and sharper. Some good foods: almonds, raisins, dried cranberries, trail mix, apple, grapes, or any other fruit or vegetable (that does NOT mean potato chips!). Your body will thank you for the intelligent food choice.

To sum it all up, the best way to stay healthy while gaming is to eat right and take frequent breaks. Thanks for reading!
